CURRENT OPERATING PROCEDURES
To: ALL SUMMERLAND KEY COVE AIRPORT SHAREHOLDERS AND PILOTS
We hope the following information and suggestions will make your flights into and out of FD-51 safer and more pleasant for all.
Summerland Key Cove Airport is privately owned and operated by shareholders. All fees collected are used for support of the airport. This facility is available for use after approval of the licensee, who reserves the right to withdraw the permissive use of the airport. All license holders must hold, at minimum, a valid sport pilot's license. All license holders must provide a copy of their aircraft insurance in the amount of at least $1,000,000 liability and $100,000 property damage and indemnify our corporation. New certificates must be provided by the license holder to the licensee at policy renewal time each year. Flights into and out of FD-51 are authorized only for shareholders and annual license holders. License holders are not authorized to have fly-in guests. New annual permits will be prorated the first year only to ensure equity and ease of subsequent billing. Every airplane must be covered by a separate license. Two or more non-spouse pilots operating the same aircraft must each have an annual license. A late fee of $100 is required on payments made after January 1 unless it's the pilot's first year and will be pro-rated.
The runway length is 2394 feet. Runway 12 has 2035 feet usable for landing; runway 30 has 2104 feet usable for landing. These lengths are set according to our license issued by the Florida Department of Transportation.
There is a 10,500 pound gross weight restriction on permitted aircraft. Additionally, provisions of the Pilot Operating Handbook (POH) apply.
The following activities are not permitted: Pick up and drop off for banner towing; High speed, low altitude passes over the field; Ultra light operations; Flight training; Commercial operations of any kind, Touch and go Landings/takeoffs.
Please familiarize yourself with the obstacles that exist at each end of the airport as well as both sides, paying particular attention to the tower to the NE of runway 12 on departure. We fly a standard VFR LEFT hand traffic pattern. Pattern altitude is 800 feet. Make turns after departure over water. Extra care should be exercised to visually check the runway area for maintenance crew/operations. Mowing is always accomplished during operational hours. Be aware that the tractor operator probably can't hear you - and may not be able to see your approach.
We operate VFR ONLY during hours of daylight, which means full stop landings and takeoffs are permitted between local official sunrise and official sunset.
Announce your arrival and departure intentions on 122.9.
Do not taxi from the airfield environment under aircraft power; please tow your aircraft on West Shore, Park or South Lake. Please do not leave your aircraft unattended on the runway prior to, or following, flight.
Monroe County Sheriffs Office helicopters use our facility for emergency operations on a 24-hour basis. Their use is normally limited to a few minutes; you may have to go around/hold until they clear the area which is most often at mid field.
In order to maintain good community relationships, extra caution must be exercised during engine start, taxiing, run-up, etc. Stay well clear of the runway during run-up on the run-up pad.
Keep prop wash away from neighbor's houses, cars, boats, etc. Your consideration will help our public image and continue to make this a safe place to fly.
Your comments, suggestions and questions are always welcome. Please send them to our mailing address.
As always, thank you for your cooperation.
